… Living Unique …
I like to believe my art is an eclectic mix of classic and contemporary styles. My jewellery has been described as an "interesting mix of rustic and really eye catching gorgeous" and "the perfect, imperfect piece". I love the shaping of the actual metal and incorporating found objects into my work, be it old silver spoons, beach stones or vintage beads, all of which makes for many one of a kind pieces. Most of my work is oxidized to bring out the beauty of the metal and give it that vintage look, reflecting the inspiration from which it came.
Local jewellery artisan, Susan Richards of Studio 410 has been creating one of a kind pieces for the past ten years. Self-taught and deeply passionate, Susan combined her love for upcycled treasures with argentium silver (93.5 silver), a silver that tarnishes less leaving the one of a kinds looking spectacular for much longer. Inspiration for Susan is ever evolving as upcycled art does, for the materials for each piece are carefully thought out and sought after.
Passion for the arts has always been a part of Susan’s’ life, attending The Alberta College of Art, teaching and managing the Vernon Community Arts Centre and most recently organizing the Annual Okanagan Artisans Show and Sale, continuing to thrive in its 37th year. Between all that Susan raised her two daughters, now twenty two and twenty four, both of which have taken on their mothers’ love of the creative arts. Susan’s pieces are sold at several high-end boutiques and galleries throughout the Okanagan.
One thing is for certain, when you buy a Studio 410 original you are getting the “perfect” imperfect piece, that reflect Susan’s passion and uniqueness for how she lives.
